The 2001-2002 Solar Motion Team's car was the Solar Wind. The car came together over a two year period and then rayced in the
2002 Sunrayce in Topeka, Kansas.
The entire team was made up of several groups. High Power designed the wiring and managed the power transfer between the array, batteries, and motor.
Instrumentation designed and implemented of the instrument panel and data transmission used by the solar car. The Array group designed a cell layout that maximized the array, determined an appropriate substrate material to allow for insulation between the conducting carbon fiber shell and provided the necessary structural support to allow for cell bending.
Encapsulation and Adhesion researched and applied materials dealing with the solar cells. The Mechanical group completed the shell structure,
created an interlocking post and pin method for interfacing the shell and the chassis, added a rear breaking system, and completed prep work for the shell chassis integration.
The Solar Tracker group designed a system that could track the motion of the sun. The Fundraising and Race Management group worked hard to
raise needed funding and create a race strategy.
